Hello. Welcome to the official ACTing Out webpage. We are an acting troup of students from the Southern New Jersey Academy
of Performing Arts who are trying to spread the message of DV prevention. Domestic Violence (DV for short) is of a bigger
problem than most people recognize. Our group tours mainly around Southern New Jersey high schools and teen centers trying
to show teens and and young adults the horrors and warnings signs of Domestic Abuse.
The ACTing Out company came together in late 2002. At that time, it consisted of a handful of high school juniors
performing corny monologues that were something like lifetime specials. It's grown through leaps and bounds since then. Over
the span of 2003-2004, the membership rate grew to nearly 20. We immersed ourselves in stories shared by domestic violence
survivors and social workers (not to mention frequent lengthy sessions in the Self-Help department of certain book
stores), and then proceeded to write our own versions of the stories.
All of this work evolved to form our current play, A Journey of a Thousand Miles, which is a compelation of original
monologues and scenes. The troupe has performed at many venues in New Jersey, including Holy Cross High School, Wildwood High
School, the Cape May County Special Services School District, The Princeton House (a behavior-health center), the
County Superintendant's Office, and of course our homebase, the Gloucester County Institute of Technology.
Currently, the entire troupe has decided to take a summer hiatus. We plan to get back into the swing
of things by late August, and already have bookings for the upcoming fall season! If you have any interest in booking
us, or just have questions regarding the program, feel free to email sm2cmwhatcantido@aol.com with "domestic violence" in the title. thanks!
